Good Batch Mama

Mama In Residence - Knoxville

RemoteFractional40+ hrs/week$23–$25/hr

Company Brief We’re excited to partner with the Knoxville community to bring Good Batch Mama to local families. We believe that dinner together is an essential connective tissue for strong communities, but sometimes life can make it especially difficult to defend and maintain. Enter Good Batch Mama – we offer homemade, frozen “prep meals” designed for families who want delicious, handmade food cooked at home, even on life’s busiest days. Our wide array of entrees, sides, and sweet treats is designed to delight and rigorously tested to make sure you get homemade quality, even after you thaw and cook your meal. We can honestly say we feed our families the same food you will be feeding yours, so you know that we stand behind our product in the highest way! Job Overview This position will serve as our primary community touchpoint and integral first “true believer” in the Knoxville market. You will be central in spreading the word about who we are and what we do, overseeing a variety of marketing, networking, and outreach efforts. When people think about Good Batch Mama, they will think about you! More specifically, you will do things such as join and regularly attend networking meetings and events, create and host community partnerships, oversee marketing efforts and events, and generally be a “force for Good Batch Mama” in your community. In addition to this community work, there will also be a tactical portion of this job. In the earliest days, as our customer base grows, you will also be involved in the following: Overseeing our retail space during agreed-upon business hours, assisting in the logistics/delivery of meals to people’s homes on pre-planned delivery routes, and managing general inventory/communication with our Kingsport location. These tasks will be central to the experience that customers have with us – they get delicious food, delivered as expected and on time by a familiar face. As customers fall in love with our food and spread the word, we will hire additional logistics support (delivery drivers, part- time retail store staff, etc.), freeing you to focus on your core ongoing duties as our primary face in the community for sales, marketing, and networking. One last note: This position does not include food prep. We’ll do all the meal prep in our commercial kitchen in Kingsport and transport it to your retail store for storage/sale/delivery. Location/Delivery Area Physical Store While we don’t yet have our space finalized, our search is focused on the west Knoxville/Farragut/Cedar Bluff region. However, we intend to work with our local Mama- in-Residence to make sure we are centrally located in an area that overlaps with the communities we’re networking into. Delivery Area Our delivery area will be wider and will encompass the greater Knoxville region. Our current plan is to target 2-3 identified “regions” within our entire Knoxville service area and assign each a weekly delivery day. Based on sales data from our Kingsport location, this focused, once-a-week delivery will allow us to offer free or heavily discounted home delivery, which customers love. An example of this is included below, though this may not be our final plan (your input will matter here!): Region 1: West Knoxville / Farragut / Hardin Valley Delivering on Day 1 Region 2: North Knoxville / Powell / Halls Delivering on Day 2 Region 3: South Knoxville / Maryville / Seymour Corridor Delivering on Day 3 It’s important to note that we wouldn’t expect you to maintain store hours and assist with deliveries in the earliest days unless support was traveling down from Kingsport to help. As staffing grows, so will retail hours. Expected Hours We anticipate that this is a full-time, 32 – 40 hour/week position and are hiring accordingly. While growth will change how these 40 hours are used, we anticipate that they will always be used. Save for special events/networking needs, which will be scheduled in conjunction with you, these hours will take place during the week, primarily between 9 AM and 5 PM. Expected Salary This position is central to Good Batch Mama's success in Knoxville, and we intend to offer compensation accordingly. The compensation structure will have two components – a base salary and a series of attainable key growth milestones that trigger bonuses. Depending on the person's experience, we plan to hire with a reasonable expectation of first-year compensation between $40,000 and $45,000, with subsequent years of strong growth reaching and/or exceeding $50,000. Additional details about the compensation breakdown will be given during the interview process so candidates can make informed decisions. Critical Skills, Traits, and Experience While this list is not exhaustive, below are some critical things that we feel a good candidate will be able to speak to: * They are already well-connected and networked in their communities. The type of community is less important than the level of engagement – a good candidate will seek to be involved in and spread the word about communities they are passionate about. * They are problem solvers who don’t need to wait for direct instructions. They take the time to understand a project's goals, then jump in to make them happen. * They aren’t afraid to bring their ideas to the table. * They are comfortable introducing people to products they love and selling them on them in a collaborative, win-win way. * They are strong, empathetic communicators. Generally speaking, outgoing, extroverted people do well in this role. * Their work ethic is never in question, and they are all in (within appropriate boundaries) when they set their mind to a task. They look to do more – not less. * Attention to detail matters to them, and they care that things they do are done well and are correct. * People enjoy working with and for them because they are aware of what it takes to get things done and regularly complete projects on time and above expectations. * They are comfortable giving and receiving well-intended feedback in real time. Below are some relevant experiences that we feel are helpful for this position. Applicants would not need to have all of these, of course; they represent a list of options we feel are helpful indicators for the people we’re looking for: * Sales or marketing experience of any kind * Customer service experience, especially in a retail setting * Stock or inventory management experience * Project management experience * Community leadership experience This can include formal leadership roles at work or informal community roles (churchleadership, PTA involvement, community volunteer work, etc.) Other Thoughts While this person will serve as our cornerstone in the Knoxville market, they will by no means walk alone. Our home store in Kingsport will provide ample support across all areas – marketing campaigns, networking targets, community event templates, weekly delivery logistics, product training, and so on. We’re here to make sure the full support of Good Batch Mama is behind them. We will also manage all product creation, so they won’t need to juggle food prep with their community roles. We’ll go into this more in the hiring process. Our goal is to become part of the community, so we will be very open to this person's feedback in the early stages of growth. Ultimately, they exist to help ensure that the Good Batch Mama in Knoxville is designed for Knoxville – that matters a lot to us.
